DOJ misses on Google Re: “Justice: Google, Chrome need to split up — Search giant says proposal would harm Americans’ privacy, along with security,” Nov. 22 Metro & Business story. The Dallas Morning News recently highlighted the Department of Justice’s major win against Google, questioning its search dominance. But the proposed penalties would hurt the very consumers they claim to protect. Google dominates not through underhanded practices but by providing a service millions prefer. Even the DOJ acknowledges this, yet it seeks to dismantle Google’s search engine through sweeping penalties that risk consumer privacy and our national security. The timing couldn’t be worse: With China advancing in the global AI race, penalizing Google could set us back and strengthen Chinese tech influence. We can’t afford such a blow. Instead of pursuing ideological goals, the DOJ should focus on outcomes that genuinely serve American consumers and innovation. Vance Ginn, Round Rock Comments are closed.
