What can state spending tell us about a state’s economic future?
Quite a lot. Between 2016 and 2025, state-funded spending grew 65.8%, more than twice the 32.4% increase in population growth plus inflation. Had every state followed that sustainable benchmark, taxpayers could have retained an estimated $1.8 trillion.
